The Peshtigo Fire burned from Sunday, October 8 to early Monday, October 9, 1871 and took by best estimates some 1,150-1,500 lives. 1,500 more individuals were seriously injured and some 3000 people were left homeless while 16 towns and 1.2 million acres of land were razed by flames.
