Autism consists of a group of developmental disabilities (autism spectrum disorders) that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. People with autistic disorder (classic autism), usually have significant language delays, social and communication challenges, and unusual behaviors and interests. While there are often common behaviors across the autism spectrum, there is no single one that is always typical of an individual with autistic disorder.
