Loma Prieta earthquake struck San Francisco Bay, October 17, 1989, measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale. The earthquake resulted in sixty-three confirmed fatalities, over 2,400 reported injuries, and property damage estimates were in excess of $7 billion. More than 100,000 homes were destroyed or damaged and more than 7,000 people were displaced.
