Fundamental-level course. Please note: This course is scheduled and delivered through your state's fire training agency. Please contact your state fire training agency for more information.
This 6-day, fundamental-level course introduces the student to the fundamental methodology for application of the requirements for fire protection systems including detection, notification, fire control and extinguishment, and mitigation of fire-related hazards, with special emphasis on fire alarm and fire suppression systems.

Although it contains many of the basic principles of code enforcement, more experienced code inspectors and officials might find it useful as a review of essential methodologies and an update to current code enforcement applications. It is not the intent of this course to present specific code requirements; however, it focuses more on the methodology of the use of these requirements.

Fire Inspection Principles 1 (R0390) is intended to provide additional material on the code applications to fire and life safety requirements as an extension of material presented in this course.

Recommended:

  • Individuals whose primary duties are those of a full-time code enforcement inspector/officer with at least 6 months experience.
  • Municipal fire department instructors or senior inspectors who have the responsibility to train their personnel involved in full-time code enforcement activities.
  • Suppression Company Officers responsible for in-service fire code enforcement activities.
  • Fire investigation personnel.

Required pre-course work available through NFA Online: Q0218, "Testing and Evaluation of Water Supplies for Fire Protection."
