On January 28, Captain Nick Charmello of the Kansas City (MO) Fire Department had just finished assisting in the extrication of a patient from an automobile accident when he collapsed from an apparent heart attack. Firefighters and rescue crews on the scene rushed to his aid. He was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
