Captain Miller was responding with other members of his fire department to a wildland fire.  He was responding from his home to the fire station in his Privately Owned Vehicle (POV).

During the response, Captain Miller lost consciousness, his vehicle left the road and came to rest in a ditch. Firefighters from another fire department responding to the same incident came upon the crash scene and stopped to assist.

Firefighters found Captain Miller unresponsive. He was removed from his vehicle and pronounced deceased due to a heart attack at the scene.
