William Morris Thompson

On August 8, 1999, Firefighter Thompson jumped down from a fire truck and stepped onto a lane marking bump that caused injury to his left knee resulting in surgery.  He reinjured his left knee a second time on June 14, 2001, and again on May 30, 2002; these re-injuries led to additional surgeries and ultimately a total knee replacement.  Firefighter Thompson underwent surgery for a total knee replacement on April 15, 2014.  Due to complications from the knee replacement surgery, he was transferred to the intensive care unit, where he passed away on April 28, 2014.  The death certificate lists the cause of death as respiratory failure, septic shock and acute renal failure.
