Mitchell Frank Lundgaard

Firefighter Lundgaard and the members of his engine company were dispatched to a local transit center for the report of a bus passenger experiencing seizures.  Firefighters found an unconscious passenger near the rear of the bus experiencing a medical emergency.  Treatment began and Narcan was administered twice.  The passenger regained consciousness and began to exit the bus.

Firefighters met the passenger when he got off the bus and asked him to sit on the ambulance gurney for transport.  The passenger refused and the situation escalated.  The passenger produced a handgun and fired a number of shots.  Firefighter Lundgaard was struck in the chest.

With shots still being fired, firefighters came to the aid of Firefighter Lundgaard, loaded him into an ambulance, and transported him to a nearby hospital.  Despite aggressive treatment in the hospital, Firefighter Lundgaard was pronounced dead at 1851hrs.
