Chief Dunaway and the members of his fire department responded to a vehicle fire.  Chief Dunaway drove an engine apparatus to the scene and operated the vehicle’s pump from a raised pump panel.

As firefighters advanced a hose line and fought the fire, Chief Dunaway was found collapsed at the pump panel.  He was removed, treated, and transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.  His death was cardiac or pulmonary-related.
