Firefighter Maull and the members of his fire department responded to a mutual aid structure fire. Firefighter Maull responded as a part of the crew on Ladder 14. The response was canceled at 1020hrs.

When firefighters arrived back at the fire station, Firefighter Maull complained to another firefighter that he was having difficulty breathing and that he planned to go to his doctor’s office. The Haddon Fire Company was dispatched to four additional incidents that day and Firefighter Maull did not respond to any of them.

Firefighter Maull was discovered deceased in his home on December 21, 2017. A subsequent investigation revealed that Firefighter Maull likely became incapacitated and died some time shortly after 2100hrs on December 19, 2017, the same day as his response to the structure fire.
