Firefighter/Safety Officer Fitch and the members of his fire department responded to a mutual aid rescue incident at 1611hrs on November 27, 2017. Firefighter Fitch responded to the scene and the incident was concluded at 1732hrs.

East Herkimer units returned to service and Firefighter/Safety Officer Fitch went home. Later that evening or early the next morning, Firefighter/Safety Officer Fitch died of a heart attack as he slept.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Friday December 1, 2017 from 3 pm – 6 pm at the New Life Church, 337 Protection Ave., Herkimer, NY. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm at the New Life Church with Pastor David Hayner, officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
