Lieutenant Hardemon and the members of his fire department responded to a fire in a manufactured home. Firefighter Hardemon operated the apparatus and assisted with hose deployment on the scene. The incident concluded at approximately 1120hrs.

Lieutenant Hardemon was back at the fire station at approximately 1414hrs preparing to repair a flat tire on a fire department boat trailer. He told the fire chief that he was feeling dizzy and suddenly collapsed. The fire chief called for assistance and provided emergency medical care. Lieutenant Hardemon was transported to the hospital but died as the result of a heart attack.
