Firefighter McBride was participating in search and rescue training the evening of August 24, 2017. He complained of difficulty breathing, removed his SCBA, and went to cool down. He refused medical treatment but said that he was feeling better. He requested to return to the training but was instead assigned to pump operations. A short time later, he collapsed.

Resuscitation efforts were started immediately, and Firefighter McBride was transported to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injury. The nature and cause of fatal injury are still to be reported.
