Douglas “Doug” Scotty Deckard, Fire Chief

Chief Deckard was assessing flooding conditions as a major storm system passed through his area. As he stood by the roadside, he was struck by a vehicle that ran off of the roadway. Chief Deckard was thrown 115 feet by the impact and landed in a nearby culvert. He was transported to the hospital but did not survive.

The law enforcement report on the incident cited weather, driver inattention, and speed too fast for conditions as factors in the crash.
