Firefighter

Firefighter Herbert was fighting a fire in a three-story residential structure. He was inside the structure when a roof collapse occurred. Firefighter Herbert was pinned by the collapse. He was removed from the structure in cardiac arrest and transported to the hospital. Firefighter Herbert was revived, but lapsed into a coma. He regained consciousness occasionally over a 9-year period. Firefighter Herbert died as a result of his injuries on February 21, 2006, at the age of 44.

Donald Herbert was honored on the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland and was included in the USFA’s annual report Firefighter Fatalities in the United States.
