Chief Adams was participating in the Krewe of Gemini Mardi Gras parade. At the conclusion of the parade, the Shreveport engine and ladder that participated in the parade were stopped by the roadside, the riders were removed from the apparatus, and items on the top of the trucks were being accounted for and secured. Chief Adams was on the top of the ladder truck. Chief Adams fell from the apparatus to the pavement below. He suffered severe injuries including a brain injury. He was treated by firefighters and transported to the hospital. Chief Adam did not recover from his injuries and died on December 12, 2009.
